The British Design Awards: 2009

During my tenure as Editor in Chief of ELLE Decoration, the British Design Awards were dedicated to promoting and supporting the nation’s industry and talent, and the annual party to celebrate the winners grew to be the definitive event of its kind on the British design calendar. It was an event where the creative elite of Britain came together to celebrate the best new British designs, and crucially, I invited guests from all spheres of the creative industries, from art to fashion. In 2009 the BDAs was held at Aqua, central London on November 10th, and award presenters included Zandra Rhodes, Roland Mouret, Celia Birtwell, Rolf Sachs, Nigel Coates and Tricia Guild, with Tom Dixon and Erin O’Connor awarding the final prize of the evening, for an Outstanding Contribution to Design, to Sir Terence Conran.
