Interior Design Masters. With Fearne Cotton as Series Presenter and me as Series Judge, it’s an all-new interior design show for BBC Two and Netflix!
Interior Design Masters is an eight-part series that sees ten fledgling designers tackle interior design challenges from hairdressing salons and restaurants to hotel rooms. And the prize? A career-making commercial design contract. What’s key is that each challenge tests them not only on their creative skills but also on the many different aspects of what it takes to be a great interior designer. That’s everything from understanding a brief to smooth project management. All alongside coming up with creative and inspiring interior design solutions!
Think jeopardy, intrigue, even a few tears, and some serious inspiration.
I enlisted the help of fabulous peoples like Mary Portas, Jade Jagger and Matthew Williamson as guest judges! Each week they help me decide who stays, and who goes.
But even with this onerous task, it was enormous fun. As you might be able to tell from the pictures below! Amazing too for me to work alongside someone like Fearne who’s something of a pro when it comes to presenting. She’s also a fellow interiors, art and design obsessive.
Episode Three sees retail champion and ‘queen of shops’ Mary Portas, share her enthusiasm, skills and knowledge on shop design. She says, “What a joy working with Michelle on Interior Design Masters as a specialist guest judge. Retail is going through such a cultural shift, it was a real pleasure to see these bright and incredibly creative designers create tomorrow’s shops in this exciting competition”.
Jade Jagger joins me on Episode Two, where our designers get tasked to transform hotel bedrooms.
And fashion designer turned interior designer Matthew Williamson shared his expertise on creating sensational show homes in Episode One. And he joined designer Naomi Cleaver in the final round, to see just how far the last two designers had come.
“I really enjoyed my time working on Interior Design Masters as I was able to focus on an area of design I’m particularly passionate about. I found the designers work to be of a really high standard and it was inspiring to see new and diverse talent emerging within this exciting design space.”
The official BBC press release is here.
Interior Design Masters airs on BBC Two in the UK. TX September 2019. Then Netflix have full global rights.
